Tightening of tattoo, piercing laws mooted
Original Source - Whyalla News
New state government laws propose to make tattooing and some piercings illegal for those under the age of 18.
And, tattooists who breach the new law could face a maximum penalty of $5000 or 12 months’ jail.
The state government is seeking comment on the draft Summary Offences (Tattooing, Body Piercing and Body Modification) Amendment Bill 2011.
The reforms include prohibiting minors from having branding, tongue, nipple, neck or other serious invasive piercing; and requiring parental or guardian consent for eyebrow, nose or naval piercing.
There’ll also be a ban on tattooing, piercing or otherwise modifying the body of intoxicated people and a greater onus on the operators to obtain and retain evidence of consent.
To find out about the mixed reactions the proposal has attracted in Whyalla don’t miss the Whyalla News on Tuesday, January 18.

Lower Blue Mountains Charity Tattoo Show to raise funds for Gateway Family Services
Original Source - Penrith Press
TATTOO enthusiast Adam Thomas is using one of his passions to create more positivity in the Lower Blue Mountains.
He is the driving force behind the Lower Blue Mountains Charity Tattoo Show at the Blaxland Tavern on Saturday.
Mr Thomas, of Glenbrook, said the event would raise money for Gateway Family Services at East Blaxland.
“Gateway Family Services help lots of people in the Blaxland area,” he said.
“I’m a single parent and they’ve helped me get back on my feet.”
Mr Thomas previously lived in Byron Bay and said organising the event was inspired by a charity tattoo show based there.
Tavern licensee Stephen Kiely said he agreed to host the show to put something back into the community.
“I was a youth worker before I got into this industry,” he said.
“I know how hard it is to get the proper support.”
The tavern will contribute 10 per cent of bar takings to the fundraiser. There will be local bands and tattoo judging.
Businesses supporting the show include Cheeky Azz tattoo shop at Blaxland, Protat and sponsor Carmart in Penrith.

Confronting art turning heads
Origianl Source - Daily Mercury
SHE'S almost naked, wearing only a brassiere and a pair of briefs so it's little wonder she is turning heads at the Mackay City Library.
Library users can't help but stop and look at Johanna Reilly's creation – an impressive large drawing of a scantily-clad woman.
“Wow” and “how long has it taken” are among the comments passed as Ms Reilly sprawls out on the library floor and puts pencil to paper.
But the woman she has created will soon be wearing more than underwear. Soon she will don an array of tattoos, including Mexican cartel insignia, Polynesian facial tattoos and Chinese mafia tattoos.

Tattoo art more than skin deep

"For men who flaunted them, it was who had the biggest and best; for women they were more delicate and for the private viewing of partners only," says Janis Nedela, co-director of North Fremantle's Gallery East.

Legacy of WA Ink
Original Source - Perth Now
IT'S a time of the year that you see a lot of flesh. Probably a lot more than you want to. On the beaches, on the streets, in the shopping centres – it’s out there, on show.
The hot weather inspires us usually modest West Aussies to let it all hang out, often literally, for a few months.
Nothing new about that, but what is emerging at an escalating rate is the passion we now seem to have for ink – tattoo ink, to be precise.

William McInnes: tattoos for the taut
Original Source - Courier Mail
AT THE beach a couple of things become clear. Firstly, lots of us have had good Christmases, me included. Secondly, a vast number not only wear a bit of Christmas pud but also tattoos.
When I was a young fellow, tatts were something that indicated a certain type of person. Rough trade, bikies, would-be toughs or bad actors on Homicide had them. People from the other side of the tracks.
Obviously I haven't kept up with social trends. Tatts are everywhere in fact they're all over the tracks.

Body Jewellery Trend Alert: Punk Rock Style!
Original Source - Going Dancing blog
The words body jewellery tend to conjure up images of piercings and rebellion, and it’s not a stretch to image an eyebrow ring as part of cutting edge punk style. So how is it that punk is now seen as a trend where body jewellery is concerned? It’s because these hard-edged pieces are moving on from the traditional facial piercings and moving into more traditional types of jewellery like earrings and bracelets, as well as nose rings and cartilage bars.

How-To: Lose Your Regrettable Tattoo
Original Source - BellaSugar
Rumours have been swirling that Eva Longoria is (wisely) lasering off all three of the tattoos she has related to soon-to-be ex-husband Tony Parker. It's hard enough ending a relationship, but when body art is also part of what's left, it can be particularly depressing. Heck, any ink you don't like anymore can leave you feeling embittered. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to wipe away pieces you no longer want.

He is disabled, gets around in a motorised wheelchair and communicates through a typing device, but his lust for life and desire to meet and communicate with new and exciting people far outweighs any limitations his cerebral palsy imposes.
Yesterday, during his seventh New Zealand trip, the 32-year-old Englishman got a tattoo of a silver fern incorporating a koru on his back, to commemorate his love affair with Aotearoa.

Child piercing chill prompts shake-up
Original Source - Courier Mail
A SURGE in extreme piercing of children without their parents' knowledge has sparked a cry for urgent changes in the law.
Children as young as 11 are nudging towards body modification practices once reserved for hardcore punks.
There are no laws in Queensland outlawing the piercing of young children, except in genitals. Yet, tattooing, on anyone under 18 is illegal.
